Here's some unfortunate news from our friends at the Chicago Department of Public Health:

A Wicker Park café was shut down this afternoon after Chicago Department of Public Health (CPDH) inspectors found evidence of a rat infestation.

Earwax Café, 1561 N. Milwaukee, was ordered closed after inspectors found rat feces in a basement storage area, holes in basement walls that allow access to rodents and insects, and a poorly maintained outside garbage container (trash overflowing onto the ground).

The violations found today are the same violations found by CDPH during a routine, unannounced inspection on October 15. Earwax Café was ordered to clean up the trash, eliminate the infestation and seal the holes in the walls. Today’s inspection found no compliance, which automatically increases the severity of the infractions.
