A reminder today that the economic situation in the U.S. is still dire, the unemployment rate is up again. In April the rate rose to 8.9% up from 8.5%. 
 
 
563,000 people lost jobs last month. Nearly all major private-sector industries saw job cuts. During the past year 6-million people have lost their jobs. There are now 13.7 miilion people counted as unemployed in America.
 
If there is a bright spot, it is simply that the rate of job losses is starting to level off.
