Job hunting basics: Simply Hired
There are millions of newly unemployed people looking for jobs. You may be like many of them, for the first time using the internet to find employment. Here’s help for you. A series of articles on the basics of job hunting in the internet age. At the bottom of the article are links to other stories in the series.
Sometimes a simple promise is a big promise: “job search made simple".
SimplyHired.com makes that promise. SimplyHired.com is a job search aggregator. That means it searches other websites and puts job openings on its site.

The first thing you notice about
SimplyHired.com is that its website looks, well, simple. As with many other sites you can do an easy search. All you have to do is type in a keyword, add a zip code to narrow your search location, and hit “enter”. You can also drill down by adding a mileage radius to your zip code.
There are more complicated ways to search on
Simply Hired.com. You can add job titles, years of experience, education, and job type. You can even narrow the search by company, company size and even how the job was posted. Some of these “filters” seem a bit over the top, but true to the promise, SimplyHired.com is easy to navigate and to use. Now if it were only that simple to actually find a job.
Some people complain that aggregator sites don’t find all the available jobs and that they post at least a day later than companies sites. While this may be true the positives outweigh the negatives for most aggregator sites.
So, why use
SimplyHired.com over other aggregator sites like
Indeed.com? Simply Hired says its unique “Who Do You Know” feature that ties in social networks gives it a big advantage. It also touts its widgets, one of which can open a window on your desktop and stream jobs for you to review. If you click on “Special lifestyle search” you can find companies that are “pet friendly”, “diversity friendly”, “Mom friendly”, age “50+ friendly", and “veteran friendly”. Although these searches sound enticing, be careful not to limit your searches with these criteria or you may miss some jobs that interest you.
SimplyHired.com is one of the easier sites to use and seems well worth checking out.
