I've mentioned in my blog, W. Kamau Bell (2008 SF Weekly Best Comedian), a mentor of mine in standup comedy for two or three years. Ok, so fellow performer/director Bruce Pachtman (who actually invited Kamau and I a dozen years ago to be in his first solo show class when we were doing standup in SF) is producing a new show called Solo Sundays with Kamau. Bruce wrote and performed the solo show "don't make me look too psychotic", which ran for a total of 100 weeks. Both first-rate solo performers in their own right, they're now helping others create new solo work as well...
San Francisco is justifiably celebrated as the nation's solo performance capital. A steady stream (or more recently, a surging river) of dedicated writer/performers, highly-skilled teachers, award-winning directors, and adventurous producers have emerged and are crafting provocative, passionate stories.
These shows are programmed for adventurous audiences who like to be challenged and are in the mood to laugh. The laughter part is very important. These shows are often very funny.
This Sunday, two solo performers, Jabari Davis, and Nicole Maxali will rock your socks with their brand new work.
