Leading provider of search and advertising based services, Google announced yesterday that they are now introducing expandable ads to Google AdSense publishers. On Google's AdSense focused blog they define the new ad type as, "Expandable ads are rich media ads that can expand beyond the original size of the ad unit, following a user-initiated action. This creates more real estate for the ad, allowing for more interaction from interested users. For instance, expandable ads may stream a movie trailer, show video game clips, or display various views of an item for sale."

Any interesting fact about the new ad expandable ad type is that AdSense publishers will continue to earn revenue based on a cost-per-click or cost-per-impression basis, but publishers will NOT generate revenue from users clicking only on the expandable ad but rather only when the user visits the advertiser's landing page. Google did I good job at addressing several potential top publisher questions regarding the new ad type. Questions addressed ranged from what actions are required to make the ad expand, maximum banner expansion sizes and finite details surrounding image ad policies.
