Los Angeles, CA based MySpace announced a major release to their MySpaceID solution. MySpaceID enables users to log in to third party websites by using their MySpace login credentials, therefore automatically displaying their profile information. MySpaceID is in tight competition with Facebook Connect and they are hopeful the most recent release will give them some advantage.

The updated release includes compatibility with OAuth and OpenID authentication systems, new developer resources to help developers create and manage applications, as well as the ability to syndicate activity feed items from MySpace to third party sites. Despite the recent update it still seems that Facebook Connect has a bit of a leg up on MySpaceID. However, MySpaceID is being tested on Yahoo!'s homepage, which reaches over 80 million unique users per day. It will be interesting to see who win this competition and what the next solution upgrades will include.
