A cone of cookies and cream is exactly what hits the spot after a run through Denver's urban wilderness.
LOHI's new "Little Man Ice Cream" is just steps from the REI/Confluence Park area, and it's a great way to end a hot summer's run. This flavor haven is located at 30th and Tejon, (just blocks from the parking lot at REI) and is notably shaped like a 50 foot milk can towering over the line near Lola. Even if you're a "head down" kind of runner, it's pretty hard to miss.
This route takes you from the REI parking lot, down the South Platte River, passing the Denver Aquarium, the Children's Museum, Invesco Field, Elitch Gardens, and all three nearby parks before heading up the hill toward Little Man Ice Cream. Once you're at the top of this last kick in your run, it's time to stop for ice cream! While enjoying your treat you'll, walk the .25 mile back down the hill towards the REI parking lot, and maybe even get a stretch on the lawn of Confluence Park, overlooking the manmade "rapids".
Next time you're at REI, indulging in gear you may or may not use, bring your running shoes and use 'em on the spot! This run is absolutely perfect in the evenings - starting at 7 or 8ish.
