Giants extend win streak to seven with 3-1 victory over Modesto

Clayton Tanner became San Jose’s fourth six-game winner as the Giants scored a 3-1 victory over the Modesto Nuts Sunday night at John Thurman Field. 

Tanner (6-2) pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run and six hits while striking out six in San Jose’s seventh straight win. David Mixon, Wilmin Rodriguez and Steve Edlefsen pitched scoreless relief, with Edlefesen picking up his sixth save.

Brandon Durden (3-3) pitched a complete game for the Nuts, giving up three runs on eleven hits while striking out four.

Brian Bocock drove in two of the Giants runs with a sacrifice fly and a single. Roger Kieschnick, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, knocked in the other run with a single. Thomas Neal went three-for-four to raise his league-leading average to .348.

Game two of the series between San Jose and Modesto is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday with Paul Oseguera (0-2) throwing for the Giants against Joey Williamson (7-0) of Modesto.
