Garrett Broshuis pitched seven shutout innings and was backed by home runs from Tyler Graham and Roger Kieschnick as the Giants defeated Visalia, 7-0, Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.

Broshuis (5-1) gave up just three hits, walked one and struck out four. He also hit a batter. Graham provided all the offense the Giants needed with a first-pitch, leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning, his fifth. Kieschnick’s homer, his tenth, came as part of a five-run sixth inning.

Daniel Runzler and Steve Edlefsen pitched two scoreless innings to give San Jose its sixth shutout win of the season.

Visalia’s Patrick McAnaney took the loss. He came into the game with a 7-1 record and 2.98 ERA. He was responsible seven runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out four.

San Jose leftfielder Thomas Neal was three-for-five and extended his hitting streak to a dozen games as he now leads the California League in hitting at .352.

The victory moves San Jose to within one game of first place Visalia. The two teams conclude the three-game series Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Scott Barnes (6-3) is scheduled to start for the Giants against Josh Collmenter (6-4) of Visalia.  Game time is 12:35 p.m.
