San Jose roared out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, scored five more in the sixth and came away with an 11-5 win over the Modesto Nuts Sunday at Municipal Stadium.

The Giants’ fifth win in a row catapulted them over Modesto into second place in the California League North. First place Visalia also lost so the Giants are just one game out of the top spot with the Rawhide coming to San Jose on Monday.

David Maroul hit a three-run homer, and Ryan Lormand also drove in three runs for San Jose. Thomas Neal went 3-for-five with his team-leading eleventh homer, and Buster Posey also went 3-for-5 at the plate.

The beneficiary of the run support was righthander Oliver Odle (3-6), who gave up nine hits and four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Modesto was led by Cox who homered twice as part of a 3-for-4, three RBI day. Nuts starter Bruce Billings gave up nine hits and six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. His record falls to 5-6.

Visalia comes to town Monday to start a three-game series against the Giants. First pitch is scheduled f or 7 p.m. with Paul Oseguera (0-1) to pitch for San Jose against the Rawhide’s Christian Beltre (1-3).
