The San Jose Giants will open the defense of their California League title on Thursday April 8, 2010 when they visit the Modesto Nuts. Their first home game will be Monday, April 12th when they host the Visalia Rawhide.
The 70-game home schedule released on Wednesday includes fireworks displays on opening night and on July 2 and 3, as well as games on Mother’s Day (May 9), Memorial Day (May 31), and Labor Day (September 6).
Ticket prices in 2010 will remain the same as 2009.
San Jose has won five Cal League championships in 12 years and last season broke the franchise attendance record when more than 223,000 fans went through the gates at Municipal Stadium.
Though it would be hard to match last season’s talent (six former first round picks on the opening day roster), San Jose will receive an influx of players from Augusta, which had the best overall record in their division in the South Atlantic League. Also, some players from San Francisco’s short season affiliate in Salem-Keizer, Oregon, which won the Northwest League crown, will surely be assigned to San Jose.
