Albert Haynesworth settled his reckless driving case by pleading no contest to the charges. A circuit court judge ordered Haynesworth to complete 25 hours of community service, attend driving school, and make a $5,000 contribution to the 119 Frontline, a counseling agency for emergency personnel.
The charges stem from a December 13, 2008 crash Haynesworth caused due to excessive speed—over 100 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Haynesworth lost control of his car, causing another car to hit a concrete barrier. The driver of that car was seriously injured.
In sentencing Haynesworth, circuit court judge Jeff Bivins told Haynesworth, “Please let this be a wakeup call to you, along with the tragic events that occurred this week that no one is infallible,” obviously referencing the murder of Steve McNair.
Redskins fans can breathe a sigh of relief, their $41 million man will be in camp on time.
For Albert we can only hope this incident, along with the shock of the McNair tragedy will be maturing influences.
Time to put your head down and concentrate on football.
