Wednesday night a group of Redskins scribes, ranging from straight reporters to bloggers, met up to take in a Nationals game and talk Redskins. Redskins’ blogger emeritus Rich Tandler organized the event. Those attending were Ben Folsom (The Curly R), Tony Brown (Hog Heaven), Rich Tandler (Real Redskins), and Kevin Ewoldt/Ken Meringolo (Hogs Haven), Marc Richman author of the Redskins Encyclopedia, David Elfin of the Washington Times, and Gary Fitzgerald of Redskins.com.
Some of us stayed at the Red Porch all night and never even saw our seats. As the beer and whiskey flowed so did the good times, so much so that the seventh inning (and last call) came too soon. The interminable rain delay—at the bottom of the ninth—kept some of us around longer. The Nats, down 2-0 at the resumption of play—forced extra innings but eventually fell—natch—to the Reds 4-2 in 12 innings.
We talked about the offseason, prospects for the offensive line, Jason Campbell, Snyder, Cerrato, Jason LaCanfora going to the NFL Network and cynics versus fan boys…
Turns out Kevin and Ken attended Loyola College in Baltimore near my old haunts and are very familiar with the Baltimore Inferiority Complex.
I was a fly on the wall for a fascinating three-way conversation between Tandler, Elfin, and Richman about Redskins draft history and it was like watching a debate between Arthur Schlesinger Jr., Richard Hoftstadter, and William F. Buckley Jr.
Good times, good times, although I fear the pictures Folsom has on his camera.
