More injury has now been added to the insult of the Redskins 2-6 start to the season. Three starters were injured in the 31-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Clinton Portis suffered a concussion in the first quarter and is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Safety Chris Horton is on the shelf for 4-6 weeks with a toe injury, and could possibly be placed on injured reserve. Right tackle Mike Williams has a ligament tear in his ankle and will be out at least two weeks.
Jim Zorn will shuffle the offensive line to adjust for Williams’ absence. Stephon Heyer will switch back to right tackle—where he began the season—and newly acquired Levi Jones will assume the left tackle spot.
On defense the Redskins could move LaRon Landry of Reed Doughty to Horton’s strong safety position. Normally Landry is the backstop at free safety but strong safety is his natural position. Reed Doughty, who has started for Horton, could also be in the mix and possibly second-year man Kareem Moore.
There was chatter about the Redskins possibly signing running back Larry Johnson. Johnson, a malcontent, was released by the Chiefs. However, the team decided not to pursue Johnson.
