The future is now.

I apologize for the long absence.  My wife was busy birthing the Redskins 2030 first-round draft pick this past Sunday evening, so I’ve been rather indisposed lately.  Young master Newgent weighs in at a 6 pounds 10 ounces.  A little light for the NFL at the moment, but he has a rocket arm.  His strength and conditioning program begins next week and at a little under three days he knows the three-step-drop determines where the ball is thrown.  My mailbox is already inundated with letters from Division 1 powerhouses.  Although, Maryland has been a black hole for quarterbacks lately, I may steer him toward College Park.  Learning Ralph Friedgen’s pro-style offense would help him at the next level rather than running the spread offense like so many other college programs.

Now that the interregnum is over, its back to regularly scheduled programming.

In regards to Sunday’s tilt against the Saints, most of the talk is centering around Reggie Bush.  Jason LaCanfora thinks he is the best “one-on-one” player in the game, and Greg Blache and the defense are definitely concentrating their efforts on Bush.  David Patten also figures to be more of a factor given the loss of Marques Colston.

Rocky McIntosh and Marcus Washington look to be in for a busy day as the Saints will no doubt use Bush to exploit the Redskins vulnerability to the short/intermediate passes.

Having said that, this is essentially the same Saints team the Redskins bottled up in 2006 when they were making their run to the NFC Championship Game.  The defense, in a very down year, held Reggie Bush to just 33 yards of total offense and the Saints as a whole to just 270 net yards.

If the defense can get off the field on third down and if the corners can hold on to the ball, they could give the offense decent field position to put some points on the board.  Of course that all depends on how much, if at all, the offense has improved this week.

Odds n Ends

Thanks, I think, to Agent Steinz for the link.  Although I think he’s splitting linguistic hairs, my doctor denied me a script for Zoloft.

Examiner Fantasy Football League Update: After one week of play, I am in first place with a 116-64 victory over the Seattletypos.  I lost my starting QB Tom Brady and my kicker Mike Nugent.  However, Michael Turner and Willie Parker more than made up for the loss.  Phillip Rivers is my backup so I’m feeling pretty confident.

This week I am up against fantasy sports guru Mr. Fantasy aka Dave Del Grande  He has Drew Brees and Reggie Bush so I am doubly vested in how the Skins defense plays.
