"Rookies are fine and dandy, and I'm glad to see them progressing," said Blache, a notoriously blunt coach. "But I don't fall in love with rookies. You're better to fall in love with a stripper than a rookie, because they'll break your heart. They really will. We will give them some time and let them prove themselves if they are worthy of it."(For the record, Blache disavows any personal knowledge of falling for those who remove their clothing for a living. However, he has friends and associates who have come back from clubs saying, "She loves me." As Blache said: "I've heard tales." Again, he is not speaking from personal experience.
Devin Thomas said he believes he prepared well for this preseason, but admits that in the future he must do more to be ready for two-a-days. Thomas and fellow second-round pick Malcolm Kelly failed the team's conditioning test, and both are trying to overcome injuries suffered early in camp, with Jim Zorn pulling no punches in detailing the situation with the media."It was tough coming into the training camp right away,” Thomas said after watching the afternoon special-teams practice. "It was an eye-opener. I definitely will be better prepared next year.”
On the defensive side of the ball, the crowd at FedEx Field should be treated to the sight of Jason Taylor making his Redskins debut. Don't be in line getting a hot dog or beer, however; his workload will consist of about a half a dozen plays.
Ladell Betts recently adjusted his contract in order to give the team a bit of breathing room in the wake of the acquisition of Miami defensive end Jason Taylor and his $8 million salary… it will make it that much harder for him to be displaced by, say, a second-year running back out of Georgetown Prep via Youngstown State.
