Wow, the conventional wisdom--which I subscribed to--about Marcus Mason, turned out to be all wrong. Note to self: never doubt Rich Tandler.

Ben, you are still a wise and mighty scribe.

The conventional wisdom was right about Durant Brooks beating Derrick Frost, as it was about the oft injured Todd Wade.

Frost aint too happy about the decision:

"I feel like I was dealt with dishonestly," Frost said. "I want to thank Danny Smith for the three years he gave me here, and I feel like he always treated me well, and I will continue to think that. But I think we all know who made the decision, and when you've got a draft that isn't starting to look so good, you're going to do whatever you can to make it look as good as possible."
Ouch, another dig at Vinny Cerrato.

I don’t think anyone expected—Zorn being a offensive minded head coach and all—that the team would keep as many defensive players as they did.  A fifth safety and a tenth defensive lineman are definitely a surprise. However, you can’t say that Justin Hamilton and Rob Jackson didn’t play well enough not to earn a spot on the team.

I wonder if, had he not been injured against the Bills, would Anthony Mix have been the sixth wide receiver? I really thought he had a much more of an upside than Billy McMullen, even though McMullen performed better. Looks like both Mix and McMullen was a victim of the decision to go with more defensive players.

It appears the decision to go with the extra defensive players is a sign of two things:

  1. Despite the woeful performances, Zorn is satisfied with the current offensive players. In fact Zorn is prepared to steer this ship through the storm.
  2. The coaching staff realizes that the defense is the team’s strength right now and they are doubling down on depth there, with the injuries to Jason Taylor and LaRon Landry.

Here are your 2008 Washington Redskins.

Even with the final current roster set, there could be more shakeups in store. Malcolm Kelly’s availability for the season is in doubt as Zorn said that the rookie could join Phillip Daniels and Alex Buzbee on injured reserve.

Looks like its more than a case of rust for Jon Jansen. He could lose his starting job to Stephon Heyer.
