The quality of play was not as error-free as last week in Canton, but again the first team offense looked good and moved the ball.  Again, I continue to see the players look more comfortable in Zorn's West Coast offense.  Jason Campbell had another crisp performance, 7of 10 for 71 yards, and he made good passes on two key third down conversions.

Had Zorn not gone for it on fourth and goal on the one yard line, I think he would have been booed out of the stadium.

Penalties reared their ugly head again, but its only the second pre-season game, and this team has a decidedly different feel from last year. The first team offense recovered nicely from the penalties on its scoring drive.

Welcome back Ladell Betts.  Betts had some great runs and scored on the screen pass from Todd Collins.  Betts, I think, has answered his critics.

Collins got off to a shaky start, but he quickly found his form leading to the Betts score. I'm still trying to figure out why he called two timeouts on that drive.

Marcus Mason, despite fumbling the opening kickoff, may just beat the numbers game and make the team.

Suisham hit a 46 yard field goal. Nice Shaun, now hit them when it counts.

The defense, as usual, was stout against the run allowing only 67 yards total. However, the unit is vulnerable to a short and intermediate passing attack.  Crossing patterns and stuff in the flat seems to give the defense fits.  One missed tackle and its trouble--cough Brian Westbrook-cough.

In all, I think this was a good game for the team. They did not play lights out football however, they continued to make steady progress.

Odds n Ends

I saw lots of #5 jerseys tonight, most of them didn't have the name Brennan on the back.  Unfortunately for Colt it looked as if Heath Shuler was out on the field in the third quarter.  However, Heath bolted town last with the rest of the Dems so we know he wasn't around. Welcome to the NFL young master Colt.

I've got pics of two guys wearing Shuler jerseys. I'm having techinical issues with my camera right now. I'll upload them tomorrow once I can get a new USB adapter to transfer them to my laptop.

A tip of the cap to the guy on the escalator, who stumped me with who his #21 jersey belonged to.  I just couldn't place the era when Starter made the jerseys.  It was of course, Earnest Byner.  I should have known that!

Big crowd for a pre-season game.

We quite possibly have the worst jumbotron screen in the league.  Seriuously, its time for an upgrade. Throw in some of those fancy flat screens that ring the side of the stadium while you are at it Dan.

Not too bad getting out of the stadium tonight. I have an orange lot parking pass for the pre-season, and parking there is nice. Looks like the field lot off of Brightseat Rd.  for the regular season.
