In my last post I talked about the quagmire the Packers are in with Brett Favre's un-retirement. Well given that Washington is a swamp I guess it was only a matter of time before the rumors and gossip about Favre coming to the Redskins started. Hey its the dog days before training camp, what else do Skins bloggers have to write about. From the Washington Times to an online sportsbook, all sorts are making the case that Washington is the best fit for Favre.

My first and only thought about this idea is NO. NO. NO.

The guys over at Hogs Haven have been flogging the pros and cons of Favre wearing the Burgundy and Gold. I'd like to associate myself with Matt's comments at Hogs Haven:

Here's the first thing I have to get off my chest. Jason Campbell is not Patrick Ramsey. Comparing Campbell to a bonafide first round bust -- a guy who never made the playoffs and was drafted by Steve Freaking Spurrier -- is unfair. Campbell has demonstrated poise, mobility, and a good arm. Yes, he fumbled a lot (13 times? God damn!). Yes, he was the anti-clutch last season in Dallas and Tampa. But he's who we're leaning on, and by God, we have to keep trying. If he misses out this year -- after 5 years in the league -- then we should probably seek an alternative via high draft pick. But Campbell still hasn't played a full NFL season, and now will have the best receiving corps he'll ever see with the returning guys and the rookie beasts. Also, are we really willing to give up a first-round pick -- and pay something like $12 million in salary -- for Brett Favre for one (or maybe, maybeeee 2) season(s)? And disrupt the chemistry of Campbell and WR's/TE's/RB's? ... We drafted Jason Campbell. We have seen his potential. We're stuck with him. He's all of 26 years old. Let's ride this one out, and let old man Favre excite the fans in Baltimore or Minnesota for a season -- or flop all over the place without good WR's and ridiculously high expectations.

That being said, Ben Folsom, who runs the awesome Curly R blog makes a darn good case for the Redskins to pursue Favre. I got the pic above from Ben's site. Ben's two best points are a) its "Brett freaking Favre" and b) Favre would fit right in to Jim Zorn's West Coast offense. Ben's tug on my nostalgic heart strings with the Lombardi argument nearly had me as well. However, given the need to give Jason Campbell his opportunity to cement the job, I remain unpersuaded by the Favre argument. I know Campbell grew up idolizing Favre and could possibly benefit from a season as an understudy. However, Campbell has been told that this is HIS team and to take that away now can't be for good for his development.
