Andy Reid and Jim Zorn: Holmgren sprouts, Westbrook still uncertain, or is he?

Jim Zorn and Andy Reid have walked similar paths on the way to head coaching jobs.

Both graduated from the Mike Holmgren School of Coaching after majoring in the West Coast offense. It's a crowded class, but only Reid and Zorn assumed top jobs directly after serving under Holmgren as quarterbacks coach - Reid with Green Bay and Zorn with Seattle.

Still no definitive answer to the status of Brian Westbrook, he practiced but Andy Reid is playing coy about whether Westbrook will play. Little brother Byron is sure big brother Brian will not play:

We shall see.  I smell a whiff of subterfuge here.

Redskins cornerback Byron Westbrook said he would be very surprised if his brother Brian played for the Eagles this weekend. Byron Westbrook said he speaks to his brother, whose presence completely changes the effectiveness and productivity of the Philly offense, nearly every day.

“I don't think he'll play,” Byron Westbrook said. “The ankle injury is more serious than what the Eagles put out. You know how Andy Reid is about injuries and giving out information. I don't think he'll play," Byron Westbrook said. "The ankle injury is more serious than what the Eagles put out. You know how Andy Reid is about injuries and giving out information…”

That vaunted Eagles bounce back factor has lost… its bounce over the last few years.

From the Eagletarian:

Here is the year-by-year breakdown of Reid after losses:

1999: 3-8
2000: 4-1
2001: 5-0
2002: 3-0
2003: 3-1
2004: 1-1
2005: 4-5
2006: 3-3
2007: 5-3
2008: 1-0

Funny nugget from Les Bowen, which I found in my opposition research:

Your Eagletarian got an e-mail this morning from a gentleman who wanted me to know that had Norm Van Brocklin been told to run that fourth-down handoff play to Correll Buckhalter, instead of a quarterback sneak, The Dutchman would have refused to do so. He would have, instead, responded with "an Obscene Jester."

The aftermath

August 25, 7:41 AM
Given that the Carolina game looked like the first half of Permian vs. Dallas Carter, I was curious as to how Jim Zorn would handle this type of loss.  I have to concur with Matt Terl on Zorn’s candidness.   Here are the take away... Read More

JZ's Style

July 31, 1:07 PM
Interesting thread going on over at ExtremeSkins regarding Jim Zorn’s leadership style.  Of course, the inevitable JAY Z type acronym popped up, which I think would be a good moniker for Zorn.  From my rigorous statistical... Read More
