Stayvacationers flock to local attractions
Rocky Mountain National Park by all accounts had a great Fourth of July. With so many Coloradans now doing “stayvacations” as opposed to going out of state, the park has seen record numbers of people since May.
The economy has affected many, many people within the state. So as opposed to spending the extra money on going out of town, they have decided to stay close to home.
There is, however, a double-edged sword to the tourist industry. While the campgrounds were packed to capacity during the Fourth of July, hotels and other lodging facilities still had plenty vacancies the week before the Fourth of July. People just don’t want to put the extra money out to pay for lodging. They’d rather just grab the RV or tent and pack the family in. Also, they can save money by not having to pay for restaurants.
While all the tourist areas saw record numbers of people, sales at retail facilities were down all around.
