Estes Park was one of only eight cities to receive a 2009 Award for Municipal Excellence. This award is given each year by the National League of Cities to cities with programs that seek to enrich their communities through economic development, community and neighborhood development, homeownership, children and families, water treatment and sustainability.

Estes Park won the silver award for its Estes Valley Restorative Justice Partnership. Gold and silver awards are given in four population categories. Other winners included Slidell, LA, St. Louis, MO and Savannah, GA.
