The force here in San Francisco has never been stronger, now that the death star Michael Savage has been bumped from the airwaves. People are happier, the air is fresher, hatred has been cut.
Well, maybe I exaggerate, but not much. I'm happy not to have him on the air. The other bloviators are offensive, but none more than this Napoleanic little guy.
I do keep up with him here from the Savage Examiner. And here's a fascinating post about how Savage called for a boycott of HBO because of Larry David's portrayal of what Savage calls a "self-hating Jew".
I have a personal stake in this. When I first outed Savage as being Jewish for the San Jose Mercury News, he reported me to the Jewish Defense League and I got a call from their spokesman. He also called then editor Susan Goldberg to complain.
I reported Savage's religion because he spent so much time trying to throw people off. He talked about hanging Christmas lights and his support of the Catholic church, but never brought up the truth about his own religion. Why? I supposed then that the kind of haters who were his fan base would hate him if they knew he was Jewish. It was obvious.
But as Savage points out, there are self-hating Jews and I would claim he is first in line. Not like he was for the Vietnam draft. He did everything he could to stay out of that war, but now hails soldiers as heros and those who oppose war as traitors.
Ah, the hypocrisy.
Thanks Bill Bowman.
