Fall in the Carolinas is beautiful. Trees are turning glowing shades of yellow, orange and red. Fall blooming flowers are in many gardens, and the temperate weather is perfect for growing salad greens and root vegetables, and for ripening persimmons. Tonight, we will be turning the clocks back 1 hour, so why not enjoy that extra hour in your garden?
The evenings in the fall are fragrant and beautiful. Olive tea trees are blooming again, filling the air with a gentle fragrance. Some varieties of gardenia continue to produce an occasional bloom, and roses are showing the last lovely flowers of the season. Re-blooming plants, such as this "Eleanor Roosevelt" iris, are making a lovely show, and autumn blooming flowers, such as camellias and asters are blooming beautifully.
Autumn is also a great time to plant perennials, bushes and trees, so if you are missing this great show in your yard, visit your local garden center and see what amazing plants are waiting to go into you yard! Re-blooming azaleas, trees with lovely peeling barks or bright colored barks, fall blooming flowers and lovely greenery all wait to be planted in your yard.
So, take that extra hour and enjoy the autumn beauty!
