The Democratic National Convention of 2008 is finally here in Denver. It’s going to be quite a week. Get your ticket punched, enjoy the ride.
I’ll be giving constant updates to this page on everything I see and do, so check back regularly.
I’ll be spending a lot of my time with the cool people of Tent State University, at Cuernavaca Park. These young activists only really care about one thing: ending this catastrophe in Iraq. To them it’s not about TV time, or fighting with the cops. It’s about getting our peers home from war A.S.A.P.
If you’re looking for something to do this week that doesn’t involve spending all your money on food and junk souvenirs, come over to Cuernavaca Park and say hi to Adam and Jojo, or join a game of kickball, and enjoy some live music. All for free.
The action starts today with the “Funk the War!” rally on the 16th St. mall. Then continues to the park for live music, speakers, and slam poets.
Monday is still up in the air. There’s a great independent film festival at Red Rocks for $20. Maybe I’ll scrounge up the dough and visit the most beautiful amphitheatre in the country. Sounds worth it to me.
Tuesday I’ll be camping out at Denver University. i want to make sure I get into the Byron Theatre for a live taping of my can’t-miss-TV show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Thanks to everyone who posted comments about the show! I'll be lounging in an obnoxiously patriotic American flag camping chair. Say "what up" if you're there too.
Wednesday is the Tent State Music Festival to End the War. Rage Against the Machine and Flobots will perform. Need I say more? I'm keeping my fingers crossed about getting into the Denver Coliseum for this one.
As I write this on the eve of the most-hyped political event of this generation, I have a very strong sense that things will never be the same in America again.
In my humble, desperate optimism, I think the Obama – Biden presidential ticket is a surefire strategy. They're the two best Democratic politicians in America. They'll lead the progressive Democratic agenda, and everything it entails, from healthcare to global warming, into the 21st century. They have to, they've got no other choice.
With this ticket the November election becomes a mere formality. Both men are great orators, very politically savvy, and as Senator Biden proved in Springfield, Ill., he won’t back down from a fight with Republicans.
I’ve got a credential to Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field. I think I’ll be telling my grandkids about this one. Hopefully when I do, America will have clean energy, a reformed health care system, and the War on Terror will be a distant memory.
