Polls, Schmolls. Beth McCann, the Deputy Attorney General and long-time Denver resident, won the House District 8 Democratic primary by a whopping 17 percent. She secured 49 percent of the vote, compared to 32 percent for Matt Bergles, and just 19 percent for Cindy Lowery. McCann's margin of victory was 1,035 votes.
Many people, including me, thought the final results would be a lot closer. Each candidate received at least 30 percent of the caucus vote. This race just shows that in politics, nothing is certain
McCann does have the most real-life experience in public affairs compared to the other candidates. She's served as the city's Deputy and Chief Deputy District Attorney, and was appointed in 1991 by Mayor Wellington Webb as the first Denver Manager of Safety - a position that included managing a budget of $170 million to oversee the Denver Police, Fire, and Sheriff's departments.. This life experience must've really translated into the overwhelming popular support for her campaign.
Here is the final vote tally from the Denver Post.
