Presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama is going above and beyond the call of duty by bringing his multi-million dollar campaign to the local level in Colorado. High-ranking Colorado Democrats have teamed up with Campaign for Change officials to host multiple community events, in different locations throughout the state, titled Solutions for Colorado.
Obama isn’t doing this just to impress the host state of the Democratic National Convention. No, the well-oiled, efficient, campaign machine that is Barack Obama is trying to accomplish two goals with the proverbial one-stone.
He knows the nine Electoral College votes in Colorado are up for grabs this year, and remain very important to his election chances, so he’s trying to reach out to on-the-fence voters.
The Obama campaign has also made it very clear that environmental issues and energy independence will be top priorities of his presidency. Colorado’s potential as a leading alternative energy producer – 48 percent of electricity in Colorado is generated from natural gas, 45 percent from coal and the remainder from wind and water – makes it an important state to have cooperation from. He’ll need the support of top state lawmakers if / when he takes office.
In an email Obama Colorado Policy Director Joy Silvern, said, “the Solutions for Colorado events are opportunities to come together with your community to talk about the issues that are important to you. They are venues for you to share your experiences and ideas with the campaign and work together to find solutions.”
The first event is scheduled to take place in Pueblo on July 26. Silvern and Carlos Monje, the National Deputy Policy Director for the Obama Campaign, will host the event and be joined by Rep. John Salazar. The economy will be the topic of discussion.
Another event scheduled for Windsor will take place later in the day on July 26. The focus of this meeting will be energy and will feature Sen. Ken Salazar.
Diana Degette will appear in Denver August 16 to talk about healthcare.
Rep. Mark Udall and Rep. Ed Perlmutter are also scheduled to make appearances at upcoming Solutions for Colorado community events.
