Met Junior – one very lucky Labrador pup. A few months ago, he was adopted by Susan and Greg Sims from an animal shelter in Idaho. Come Saturday, he boards a 36-foot mobile adoption van in Los Angeles to being a five-week national adoption tour aptly called, “Get Your Licks on Route 66.”
Junior is the canine ambassador for Fido Friendly, a national magazine that addresses lifestyle trends and travel tips for people and their pets. Susan Sims serves as publisher. She is also a creative collaborator who is teaming up with the North Shore Animal League America to raise awareness for shelter adoptions.
What better way than to hop aboard a mobile adoption van and travel the entire length of the nostalgic Route 66? The Fido Friendly/North Shore Animal League America team will spend the next month or so on the road as they begin in California and travel through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois before staging a celebratory adoption wrap-up party in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
As editor-at-large of Fido Friendly, I’ll be there to wish them well at the kickoff media event planned Saturday at a Wal-Mart store in Pico Rivera, California. And, I’ll keep you informed on their cross-country trek designed to bring much-needed awareness about the fate of homeless pets all across America.
As for Junior, why he gets to enjoy a dream most dogs would drool for – a very l-o-n-g road trip! Woof! Woof!
