Jinni recommends movies based on your mood or taste.

A lot of days, you leave your house early and the air is fresh and cool. You might even have to put on that cardigan you bought at Macy's with the gift card you received for Christmas three years ago.

And then it happens. The clock strikes 12. Ravenous beings rise up from the thresholds of computer chairs and embark on what the free world calls, "lunch hour." The heat--the unbearable heat of it--nothing else could interrupt the sensation of eating sweet potato fries in bulk. It is at this point that you hate yourself for dragging along that stupid cardigan. It's so stupid. And now you have to carry it. How are you supposed to dress for this, anyway?

But isn't that just a metaphor for life <bats eyelashes>?

That was how Pandora started (not the box, but the online station). You got to choose what kind of mood YOU wanted to "dress" for and it adjusted the temp. It's your entertainment themostat--And now, Jinni has become just that for film.

Jinni works as a movie search engine that can recommend movies to you on the basis of a few mood-characterizing keywords.

Unfortunately, it's still in its beta phase, so you need an invite to use it.

Fortunately, Jinni gave me 200 invites to link to this post. So get your invite here.

For more info: Jinni is already the recipient of numerous great reviews from reputable names like PCWorld, CNET,  and my favorite, SXSW Interactive.
