Amusement parks in New England
A popular attraction in summer are amusement and water parks. Now that Connecticut's weather decided to actually feel like summer you can take advantage of local amusement and water parks right here in Connecticut as well as some that are a bit longer of a drive away.
- Six Flags New England - Six Flags is the most recognizable amusement park in New England. Located at 1623 Main Street in Agawam, MA right over the CT border Six Flags has 19 thrill rides including the now open Bizzaro. Hurricane Harbor is Six Flag's water park with two 500,000 gallon wave pools, slides, children's play area, and Typhoon the water coaster.
- Lake Compounce - Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT is smaller than Six Flags but jam packed with coasters, rides, and entertainment. Their coasters are a mix of old school wooden and new school Zoomerang. Entrance to the park will also grant you access to the water park filled with a lazy river, water slides, Clipper Cove, and a family size raft. Children's rides for ages 3-10 are also inside the park. - Quassy Amusement Park - Quassy is located at 2132 Middlebury Road in Middlebury, CT. Their featured rides are available for both adults and children. If you're looking to get wet and stay cool this summer Quassy also has Lake Quassapaug and a water park with slides and a tipping bucket filled with water. - Playland Amusement Park- Playland is located off exit 19 on I-95 in Rye, NY. All Day Fun Bands grant all day access to rides for $30. Reduced cost bands include the Twighlight Fun Band used after 6:00pm, Junior Fun Band for children under 36 inches with free admission and an adult present, and a $5 Non-rider Band for those parents that are just tagging along for the kids. Weekday car parking is $4, weekend is $5, and holidays are $5. Playland features rides, Kiddyland, mini golf, arcade, ice casino for ice skating, a pool and beach, boardwalk, and rental pedal boats. - Coco Key Water Resort - Save Coco Key for a rainy day. It's 84 degrees year round. This indoor water park is the new addition to the Holday Inn in Waterbury, CT. Coco Key features slides, tube rides, whirlpools, and activity pool. Meal options include Pizza Hut Express, Wet Rooster Bar, and A&W inside the park. The hotel also has available a Starbucks and Parkside Grille.
- Storyland - Storyland is located in Glen, NH with rides and attractions aimed at younger children. Children 3 and above cost $25 per person, children under 3 are free, and senior citizens 60 and over are $23 a ticket. Admission includes free parking, unlimited rides, free strollers, and free pet kennel use.
- Canobie Lake Park - Canobie is in Salem, NH featuring rides and Castaway Island water park. General admission costs $30. Children under 3 are free, after 5pm everyone pays $20, and senior citizens over 60 and those under 48" tall are a reduced cost of $21. For more detail on rides visit www.canobie.com/.
