The Indianapolis Colts will be without RB Donald Brown for at least another week.
Brown, the Colts' first-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, was one of eight players made inactive shortly before kickoff of the Colts' game Sunday against the Houston Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts' other game-day inactives:
K Adam Vinatieri (right knee), WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee), CB Kelvin Hayden (knee), OT Tony Ugoh, DT Fili Moala (concussion), TE Tom Santi and QB Curtis Painter (third quarterback).
The Texans' inactives:
WR Glenn Martinez, CB Fred Barnett, SS Dominique Barber, DT DelJuan Robinson (knee), G Tutan Reyes, TE James Casey, DT Frank Okam and QB Dan Orlovsky.
Also shortly before the game, the Colts announced that first-year veteran Kyle DeVan will start ahead of second-year veteran Mike Pollak, a 2008 second-round draft choice.
Brown, who has rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns this season while playing extensively in a backup role behind four-year veteran Joseph Addai, sustained a shoulder contusion in the Colts' victory over St. Louis on October 25. He missed last week's victory over San Francisco, then practiced Wednesday and Thursday before missing practice Friday.
With Brown out, Addai will continue to start and will play more extensively. He rushed for 61 yards last week and has 336 yards on 102 carries with four touchdowns this season. The Colts will miss Brown mostly because of his big-play ability. The Colts running game hasn't been dominant with either he or Addai, but Brown has breakaway speed that gives Indianapolis an added big-play possibility.
With Hayden out, the Colts will start Jacob Lacey at cornerback, meaning two rookies will start at the position – Lacey on one side and Jerraud Powers on the other.
Also, with S Bob Sanders (elbow) out for the season, Melvin Bullitt will start for the sixth time in eight games. Bullitt has spelled Sanders 15 times in two seasons.
