Indianapolis Colts S Bob Sanders will undergo surgery on his left elbow, Head Coach Jim Caldwell said Friday.
Sanders, who missed the first five games of the season with a knee injury, visited with noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews Thursday and will undergo some sort of procedure on the elbow he injured against San Francisco last week, Caldwell said Friday -- a day on which Sanders was just part of a series of major injury news around the Colts.
The Colts on Friday not only confirmed that CB Marlin Jackson has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season, they also announced that WR Anthony Gonzalez underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday. No timetable has been set for Gonzalez's return.

Caldwell also said CB Kelvin Hayden, who has missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury, likely will be out 3-to-4 weeks. He missed three games with a hamstring injury before returning for the last two games.
Sanders, who started the last two games, played after injuring his elbow against the 49ers Sunday. Caldwell, who said this week the elbow flared up afterward, said Friday Sanders will definitely have some sort of surgical procedure on the elbow soon, saying a determination on Sanders' status “will be made pretty quickly,” possibly within the next 24 hour.

“He's going to have to have something done,” Caldwell said Friday as the AFC South-leading Colts (7-0) prepared to play the Houston Texans (5-3) at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis Sunday at 1 p.m. "It's how long it will be after the process.”
Gonzalez, who has been out since Week 1, underwent the procedure to remove what the Colts said in a Friday morning release were "loose particles." Caldwell said a timetable on Gonzalez's return could be known in the “next couple of days."
Jackson's injury and move to injured reserve meant for a second time in as many seasons the 2005 first-round draft selection's season ended with a mid-season torn anterior cruciate ligament ssutained in practice. Jackson started 2007 and the first half of last season, but missed the last half of last season with torn ligaments in his right knee. The injury Wednesday came early in practice in a non-contract drill, the team said, and was to his left knee.
“He's a warrior," Caldwell said of Jackson. "He's an extremely dedicated guy. He gives it everything that he's got. Whatever you ask him, he does, to the nth degree. He has worked hard toget back. To have a setback is tough. All feel for him.”
With Jackson on injured reserved, the Colts signed veteran DE Josh Thomas. He spent 2004-2008 with the team as mostly a reserve DE, and spent time with the Colts in training camp this season before being released just before the season.
“He's always been real good at stopping the run, and he knows our system,” Caldwell said.
With Jackson and Hayden out, the Colts likely will start Jacob Lacey and Jerraud Powers at CB with Tim Jennings in the nickel and T.J. Rushing at the fourth corner.
“That gives us what we need in that regard,” Caldwell said.
Rushing will continue to return punts while playing fourth corner, Caldwell said.
Also, Caldwell said second-year veteran Philip Wheeler --a third-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft -- likely will start at strong-side linebacker on Sunday over rookie Ramon Humber. He would take he place of Tyjuan Hagler, placed on injured reserve with a ruptured biceps Wednesday. Reserve Freddy Keiaho also can play strong-side, Caldwell said.
“He could play all three,” Caldwell said. “He's very capable.”
Caldwell also said although Colts RB Donald Brown (shoulder) practiced Wednesday and Thursday, “there's still some question” about the rookie's status.
“We'll see what happens today,” Caldwell said Friday.
