It is inevitable for many people trying to lose weight: nighttime can be the hardest time of the day to not snack. And, it makes sense. You are tired from a long day, you put your pajamas on and turn on your favorite TV show and then the snack attack begins. But there are ways to avoid the midnight cookie jar run.
1. Brush your teeth after dinner. Brushing your teeth and rinsing with mouthwash can signal your brain that you are done eating.

2. Eat dinner later. Just make sure it is a healthy meal and low on carbs, which can disrupt your sleep cycle. Also try to avoid alcohol, which not only makes you eat more but can also keep you up at night.
3. Take up a hobby. Keeping both your hands and your mind busy can distract you.
4. Make an emergency list. If you are under a severe snack attack, make a list of five things you will do before giving into the attack such as listening to your favorite song, going for a walk, or reading a magazine. Commit to doing five things and you might find that you lose the urge for chips.
5. As soon as dinner is over, clean the kitchen and turn off the lights.
6. Don't eat while watching TV. Studies show when you eat while watching TV, you increase your calorie intake. Eat at the kitchen table and then when you are done, treat yourself to TV.
7. Don't keep snacks in the house. Having chips and other trigger foods in the house is a lazy way to snack. Keep them out of your pantry. And, if you really want a cookie, then force yourself to go out and get one.
