Simple photosharing tips for families
As a photo enthusiast and mom, I take thousands of pictures per year and upload them onto various photo-storing sites including shutterfly photosharing sites. I currently have two photo sites, one dedicated for my family and another dedicated for close friends. As I have noted in my previous article, I find shutterfly photosites to be easy-to-use and most attractive, with simple and clean interface minus the cheesy graphics and unreadable font types cluttering up its pages.
With this said, I would like to share a list of simple tips to keep in mind as you share photos on the net. While latest trends in photosharing are fun and memorable- making it possible for family and friends to share special moments with a few simple clicks- we must remember to do so without jeopardizing the privacy of our family and friends.
- Think before you scan and caption your photos with care. Remember that posting old photos from high school may be fun for you, but embarassing for others.
- Know your audience. Be mindful of your privacy settings when you post photos. Does your site offer easy-to-use settings that give you full control over who is able to view photos? If not, consider switching to a different photosharing platform.
- It's okay to share often, but share wisely. When shutterfly conducted a survey about photosharing, 46% of respondents said they were bothered by people sharing too many photos at one time. So instead of sharing every single photo from your camera, try to select good images that most vividly tell your story. Avoid posting pictures that are blurry, too dark, too bright or too distracting.
- Think before you post. These days, many sites (including facebook) claim they reserve full rights to your content even AFTER you've deleted your account. Since family photos are the most widely shared photos on the web (over those of friends, weddings, pets, babies and travel), it is best to practice common sense and to choose wisely before posting pictures of private and intimate moments with your family.
