What would you do if a friend of yours spent an exorbitant amount of money on a piece of art that you felt had no value?
That's the basis of the play ART now playing at the Steppenwolf Theater through June 7th.
I had a chance to see this play early on in it's run, written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton it truly shows you how your friends will react to what you think is fabulous.
The play centers on a friend purchasing a painting that is 4 feet by 3 feet and solid white except for a single white line running through it. He's paid an exorbitant amount of money for it and is astonished that he got it for such a great deal. As he's showing it off to his friends, clearly with excitement, their true feelings come out to what they think of their friend, his painting and the relationship that the three of them have.
It's playing in the Upstairs Theater through June 7th and if you hurry you can get tickets for any show from May 10th through May 24th for only $10! That's right, only $10 for a fantastic show at the Steppenwolf Theater.
** If you really want an experience, forgo the elevators and take the stairs all the way to the top of the Steppenwolf. From the busy lobby you'll head through a noisy crowd, only to enter a quite stairwell where you feel you've been "left behind never to be found" only to arrive in the amazing Upstairs Theater. It'll give you a chance to clear your mind and arrive to the show ready to enjoy. **
