Every Wednesday and Saturday evening, Navy Pier puts on an impressive fireworks show. It's one thing to watch it from land, but to go out in a boat and see it with the skyline in the background elevates the "oohs" and "ahhhs" to a whole new level.

The schedule, with few exceptions remains the same through Labor Day weekend:

Wednesdays: 9:30 PM

Saturdays: 10:15 PM

The exceptions are Saturday, July 4, when the show starts at 9:00;  Saturday, July 25, which is Venetian Night, where the City of Chicago puts on a show at an indefinite time, usually around 9:00; and Sunday, September 6, at 9:30.

Also, is the fantastic City of Chicago Fireworks on July 3, usually around 9:00.

The fireworks shoot off from a barge in Lake Michigan.  It is important to observe the security zone around the barge, which is marked off by Chicago Marine Police, Coast Guard, and Chicago Marine Towing vessels with flashing lights.  Also, when going through the Chicago Harbor lock, the barge has priority and no recreational or commercial vessel may lock through at the the same time.  Recreational vessels should also prepare to wait their turn after tour boats lock through en masse.
