It's heeeeeeeeeeeeeere! After months of anticipation and dread (depending on which side of the political fence you are on), the Democratic National Convention (DNC) has finally arrived in
Sunday was a star-studded kick-off to the convention: the Green Frontier Fest had appearances from Mayor Hickenlooper and actress Daryl Hannah, and Green Sunday At Red Rocks - an event held at the amphitheater, focused on renewable energy and green jobs - featured performances from Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds, Sheryl Crow, Sugarland and Will Ferrel.
Today, the official opening day of the DNC, Freewheelin loaned bicycles to 1,348 people as of 5:30 pm. DNC participants are being encouraged to bicycle throughout the convention, particularly on Thursday when Senator soon-to-be-presidential-candidate Obama will give his acceptance speech at Invesco Field. Bikes can be picked up at the Children's Museum until the 28th.
To discuss the DNC's goal to be the most sustainable event in modern history, Democratic party chairman Howard Dean and Katie Couric chatted today about the green efforts made by the convention committee (see video below).
