Colorado State University continues to prove its environmental leadership by teaming with BP Solar to implement a solar-panel system at its Pueblo campus. Ah, riches of the desert. In excess of one megawatt, it will be one of the largest systems for an education facility in the nation. It is expected to contribute more than ten percent of the university's electricity needs and be operational by the fall semester.
After installation, BP Solar will continue to operate the system and sell electricity generated by the solar array to CSU-Pueblo. Black Hills Energy, which provides electricity and natural gas to parts of Colorado and other Western and Midwestern states, will purchase renewable energy credits generated from the system. The project will help Black Hills Energy meet state requirements for generating electricity sales from renewable sources.
