StartupNation, a website by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, hosts the annual StartupNation Home-Based 100 Competition to honor outstanding home-based businesses. Ten winners in ten categories (hence 100) are bestowed with all the glamour and prestige that comes with the award: free publicity and lots of it, which to a small business is priceless.
This year, the Greenest category received more applicants than I can bother to click through and ten winners were named:
| Fun Photo Guys - Bay Area Wedding Photographers | Pleasant Hill, CA | 1 |
| Nest | St. Louis, MO | 2 |
| Nomad Needles, maker of The Worm Inn | Boulder, CO | 3 |
| TE Studio | Minnepolis, MN | 4 |
| myFREEoffsets.com | Rainier, WA | 5 |
| Postgreen | Philadelphia, PA | 6 |
| Zosimos Botanicals LLC | Gaithersburg, MD | 7 |
| Dick Pepper Enterprises | San Marcos, CA | 8 |
| Inn Serendipity Bed & Breakfast | Browntown, WI | 9 |
| Ragazzi Clothing Company | Costa Mesa, CA | 10 |
Boulder-based home business Nomad Needles won third place in the greenest category for her in-home composting solution, the Worm Inn. This invention lets you compost fruits and vegetables, egg shells, coffee grinds and newspaper shreds using a specially made canvas vessel and... a pound of worms.
Surely, the person on your gift-giving list who already has everything, doesn't have THIS.
