The Republican Party has committed to making this RNC the greenest one ever. It rolled out a large recycling plan, developed a paperless system to check in its 8,000 volunteers, used primarliy recycled furniture to furnish its convention offices, and conserves energy by turning down the air conditioning after 5 pm. More impressively, Xcel Energy (ah-ha, there is a Denver tie-in) is powering the RNC with 3,000 megawatt-hours of wind and solar energy, and General Motors is supplying 325 flex-fuel or hybrid vehicles for staff and convention-goers.
Additionally, eco-friendly Republicans will feel at home in the Twin Cities, where businesses like QBP are leaders in environmental leadership and public and human-powered transportation are the norm. Once again Freewheelin, with help from Humana and Bikes Belong, will offer free bicycle transportation to convention goers.
