Sue Kennedy of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s Irvington branch recommends The Green Bible. Verses and passages that speak to God’s concern for creation are highlighted in green, adding up to more than 1,000 references to our Earth and its care.
Here’s what Sue had to share: “This is a new specialty Bible aimed at the “creation care” movement that espouses environmentalism from a religious perspective. Bibles called “red-letter editions” highlight in red direct quotations from Jesus. This “green-letter edition” instead calls out those passages that illustrate the interdependence of life and how humans are called to care for it. The editors point out that there are more than 1,000 references to earth in the Bible compared to 490 references to heaven. Printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink, it includes a study guide or “Trail Guide,” essays by several prominent contributors, as well as a green subject index and concordance. A resource guide gives practical tips for living green and connecting with others of like mind, as does the companion website, www.greenletterbible.com. The Green Bible has taken its unique place in the rapidly expanding ranks of green publications.”
So are we called to care for the Earth? Read it for yourself and I’m sure your thoughts on the subject will be all green.
