If you're a Warriors fan and you listened closely to vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin and coach Don Nelson on Thursday, you couldn't have liked what you heard.
After back-to-back winning seasons, it seems obvious Mullin and Nelson know that making it three in a row is going to be awfully difficult. Maybe even darn near impossible.
Before each of the past two seasons, Mullin has been asked if he thought the Warriors were a playoff team.
Both times he said yes.
On Thursday, here was Mullin's response to whether the Warriors were a playoff team:
"We’ll have to wait and see. More now than ever. It’s a standard answer. Everyone likes to say ‘We’ll, we’ve got to get to training camp.’ Talking with Nellie, he’s seen a lot of these guys, but none of us have seen them all play together. So, I don’t know.”
In addition, Nelson once again indicated that he might not be relying as heavily on veterans this season. That's another sure sign the playoffs aren't on the front burner.
"We have a young team," Nelson said. "And the thing I love most of all _ other than winning _ is watching young guys develop and become players. I really do enjoy that, and we're going to have an opportunity to watch younger guys play. I'm looking forward to that."
