Jackson is launching his “Jack 1 Foundation” this week with a series of community events, beginning on Wednesday. Last week the Warriors used a Jackson bobble-head doll to help market mini-plans, and it was a resounding success, according to the team.
Jackson continues to remake his image since coming to the Warriors in January 2007.
Jackson says his foundation will focus “on youth development and empowerment regardless of economic status.”
Speaking of economic status, if I know Marcus he’ll ask Jackson about his economic status, which changed somewhat over the summer.
Last year, Jackson was the third-highest paid Warrior behind Baron Davis and Al Harrington. Despite Monta Ellis’ emergence, Jackson was generally considered the team’s most important player behind Davis _ certainly its heart and soul.
The Warriors started the season 1-6 without Jackson, then promptly reeled off eight of nine when he returned, which turned out to be the fastest return to .500 after a 1-6 start in NBA history.
Only Davis has hit more big shots than Jackson over the past 18 months.
This offseason, though, the Warriors re-signed Andris Biedrins and Ellis to big-money, long-term contracts, effectively making that twosome cornerstones.
The Warriors also went out this offseason and paid about $10 million per year to Corey Maggette _ like Jackson, a swingman.
It should be interesting to get Jackson’s take on that.
Looking forward to reading … and commenting.
