If you’re looking for news regarding the Warriors not involving Baron Davis heading to the Los Angeles Clippers, they did announced their roster and schedule for their summer leagues in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City at the Rocky Mountain Revue.
As you’d expect Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, C.J. Watson, Anthony Randolph and Richard Hendrix will be playing.
Two interesting names filling out the roster: DeMarcus Nelson and Mykal Riley.
Nelson was born in Oakland, attended high school in Sacramento and then played four years at Duke. Nelson was the ACC-Defensive Player the Year and All-ACC First Team this past season.
He’s athletic and defense-oriented, which should make him worth a look.
As for Riley, the Warriors are likely to keep a real close eye on him this summer. Riley shot 43 percent from 3-point range last season at Alabama, making him the second-best 3-point shooter in the 2008 NBA draft.
Only Shan Foster, selected by Dallas at No. 51, shot better from beyond the arc than Riley.
With Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus likely gone and Kelenna Azubuike an uncertainty, Riley will get an opportunity.
He's athletic, can run the floor and is long. He struggles keeping guys in front of him on defense, and he's not supposed to be a great ballhandler. But that weakness wasn't apparent in his individual workouts.
In fact, I'm calling it right now: Riley will make the team.
