Richard Hendrix

Since the Warriors waived Richard Hendrix today, I figured I’d dump out the notebook with any of the leftover stuff on him.

Here's a quote from Bakersfield Jam coach Scott Roth on Hendrix, and looking back, it may ring true.

Maybe even 10 days ago, Roth already knew Hendrix wasn't Warriors coach Don Nelson's kind of guy.

“He (Hendrix) can score in the post in this league (D-League), set screens, get people open,” Roth said. “I think at the end of the day, whether it’s with Golden State or not, there are 29 other teams he can be showcasing for. All he has to do is find a niche.”

When I went down to Bakersfield and talked to Hendrix, I asked him how he was getting used to the city, and what his favorite restaurant was.

Hendrix said he loved the people, and his favorite restaurant was (Sorry, Bakersfield): "I'd have to say Subway."

By the way, Hendrix contract for this season is fully guaranteed for $442,000. That means the Warriors are on the hook for more than half of that, approximately $300,000.

If you're wondering whether or not Hendrix will still be playing for the Jam, the Warriors' official D-League affiliate, I'm certain the answer is yes.

As an "assigned" player, which means a player on an NBA contract that the parent club sends down, Hendrix did get to wear the Warriors' official logo on the back of his Jam jersey.

As did DeMarcus Nelson.

Far as I can tell, the only thing that needs to happen is the Warriors' logo needs to be un-sewn so when NBA scouts now see him they'll know right off the bat he's a free agent.

One last thing ... on Hendrix.

Hendrix isn't going to be the kind of player who will blossom somewhere else and make the Warriors rue the day they waived him.

At the same time, there is a very real chance Hendrix will wind up in the NBA, maybe for a little bit here and there and maybe for somewhere longer than that.

Bottom line is Nelson prefers his big men a little bit different than Hendrix, and chances are, he viewed him in the same way he views Ronny Turiaf.

Another player who Nelson struggles to find playing time for.
