Find out more about Matt: Matt is the pregame and postgame analyst on Golden State Warriors telecasts for Comcast Sports Net Bay Area. Previously, he covered the Warriors for nine seasons as a traveling beat writer for the Contra Costa Times. When not watching or writing about basketball, Steinmetz is on a constant search for the Bay Area's best pickup games. |
Who says Warriors coach Don Nelson is slacking off?
The guy's going to catch a plane late this afternoon along with assistant general manager Larry Riley to go to Bakersfield to see the Jam play the Tulsa 66ers.
Nelson is going to take a firsthand look at DeMarcus Nelson and Richard Hendrix, the two Warriors' players assigned to the D-League.
Said Nelson: "Going down there to check them out, and to make sure they know we're interested in them."
Approximately a week ago, Nelson said it was premature to consider calling up Hendrix, despite the Warriors' rebounding woes.

Also, Monta Ellis was working out on the court on Thursday afternoon, doing some light shooting. It's been the first time Ellis has been on the court in a formal situation since suffering a left ankle injury in a moped accident this offseason.
Later, I'll post some video of that, along with (hopefully), a 10-minute media session with Ellis.
