The worst part about watching the Warriors' 138-125 blowout loss against the Knicks wasn't that it was disappointing or frustrating or infuriating -- or anything like that.

Worst part was that it was so sad you started thinking some really dark thoughts about the future.

We're talking embarrassing loss to the Knicks and a thoroughly depressing 0-5 trip

Bad defense, questionable shot selection and mental toughness are the least of the concerns.

How can you not worry that what's going on right now might not be temporary?

How can you not worry that Anthony Randolph isn't going to be able to get good enough fast enough. And how the hell good is he going to have to be?

How can you not stop worrying about the meantime, and how it looks like years of this push-pull thing among Stephen Jackson (who didn't play on Saturday), Corey Maggette, Jamal Crawford and (God willing) Monta Ellis?

Then you stop worrying for a moment and start trying to figure out how to make the meantime better.

That's when start worrying again because you wonder wonder how tough it's going to be to move any of your core players, what with all of them having lots of years and lots of money left on their deals.

You hear a lot about these so-called "expiring contracts" in the NBA and how valuable they are, and you realize the Warriors don't have any.

You look for the calming influence of veteran coach Don Nelson on the sidelines, but he's not looking so sure of himself lately, either.

So you worry again, but try to convince yourself that Jackson is learning a new role and Maggette just got here a couple of months ago and that Crawford just got here a couple of days ago. And that the team is going to come together.

But that doesn't work after you just watched what went down in Madison Square Garden.

Actually, that's the worst thing about Saturday's loss.

It gets you thinking of the future, and that's not looking like much of a sure thing, either.
