By the way, I have to get this out there.
Everyone has been asking about Anthony Morrow and there's a little snippet from a Don Nelson interview following.
But everyone seems to be asking if there's ever been another unknown to burst onto the scene like Morrow has. And, keep in mind, it's only been two games for Morrow.
The guy I thought of was: Flip Murray.
Not quite the same parallel but pretty close.
Flip Murray was a rookie in 2002-03 out of Shaw University. Exactly. Shaw. That's proof he was an unknown.
His rookie year he played in 14 games for 62 total minutes for the Bucks and Sonics. Half of his stints that year were for two minutes or less
The next year with Seattle, 2003-04, Murray opened up by scoring 20 or more points in 10 of the first 11 games. In seven of those 10, Murray had 24 or more points.
Murray was just under 50 percent from the field for that stretch, but I'm submitting that with all due respect to Morrow, he's no Flip Murray yet.
♦
Real quick: Here's Don Nelson talking about the guy everyone is talking about ... Morrow.
And, I'm trying to download a couple minutes of video from today's practice.
Any interest in something like that?
Consider this a quick holdover. There was a lot more to this interview and maybe I'll do it later ... if it's not readily available elsewhere.
♦ Question: How does a guy like Morrow fall through the cracks?
Don Nelson: I don't think you should ask that question after two games. But after the season it might be a good question if he continues to do what I think he's going to do.
I don't know that we should ask that question yet. See if he's as good as I think he is.
♦ Question: Does Morrow feel like a player you got for nothing in a trade or some kind of unexpected gift?
Nelson: I felt good about him in the summertime and I told him not just to be content making our team.
I thought he would do that. I said 'You should think about being a player this year in my system.' I didn't think it would come true. I just wanted to encourage the guy.
But I thought maybe he was a year away. But my goodness ... what a surprise.
♦ Question: Can you see him the backcourt with Monta Ellis down the road?
Nelson: I see him in almost any situation. He's 6-5, he's a two guy and I think he can play with anybody. ... He' just pretty good.
