Anthony Morrow: Career-high 37 points vs. Clippers

Seems like the perfect time to go to the tape recorder and transcribe that Anthony Morrow interview from back in training camp.

That’s right. The one I never used.

Anyway, Morrow had a career-high 37 points _ on 15-of-20 shooting  _ and 11 rebounds in the Warriors’ 121-103 win over the L.A. Clippers on Saturday afternoon in L.A.

When I talked to him in late September, Morrow already had bucked some long odds by securing a guaranteed contract despite not being drafted.

That’s how well he had played for the Warriors in the Las Vegas summer league and Rocky Mountain Revue.

By the way, he was the MVP of the Rocky Mountain Revue.

Looking back, now it’s easy to figure that Morrow wasn’t just happy making the Warriors. But, of course, it took looking back to figure it out.

Also, I'm linking to a post by Kevin Arnovitz on Morrow's play in today's game. You may know Arnovitz from the TrueHoop website. Arnovitz saw a lot of Morrow at Georgia Tech. KEVIN ARNOVITZ/ANTHONY MORROW LINK HERE.

And here's the interview from media day at training camp.

QUESTION: "Did you expect to get drafted?"

ANTHONY MORROW: " I knew it was going to be a longshot because we didn’t have the season we wanted to have and I wasn’t off the charts. So, it was about putting myself in the best position."

QUESTION: "There has been a coach or two and a couple of Warriors players who have said you have a chance not just to make the team but perhaps contribute. Do you look at it that way?"

ANTHONY MORROW: "I definitely feel that way. I have confidence in myself. I know how hard I work. I just work as hard as I possibly can and all I want to do is contribute to help the team win. I’ve always been a winner. That’s all I want to do. Win games.”

QUESTION: "How would you describe your game?"

ANTHONY MORROW: "A shooter, scorer. I can come off screens. One thing I’ve learned throughout the summer and what I’m working on is come off screens and find teammates, come off screens and move the ball, come off screens and find my players.

"That’s one thing good players do, a lot of those guys get a lot of attention. They know how to make teammates better. That’s something I want to get better at also. And rebounding, offensively and defensively, just bringing a certain energy to the court, get loose balls, tip-ins, you know. I just want to play."

QUESTION: "Do you really see yourself playing?"

ANTHONY MORROW: "I’ve been here three weeks, working out with the coaches. I’m just one of those guys that wants to work hard, and I want to earn it. I don’t want anything given to me.

"I haven’t had anything given to me anyway. I love that. I want to come in and work hard, just stay ready, keep my faith and confidence in myself, and we’ll see what happens.”
