Larry Harris: Fondness and respect for his father

Had a chance to chat with Larry Harris, whom the Warriors hired as an assistant coach on Tuesday.

He is the son of Del Harris, former head coach of the Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks and L.A. Lakers.

It's clear after talking to Larry for five minutes that he and his father have a close relationship.

Tough not to be a little touched by this quote:

"It's always good to have your father as your best friend."

More on dad ...

"I know that he would have loved to have one more shot at being a head coach in the NBA, and I know I'm biased, but I think my father is the best  'X'-and-'O' guy that there is.

" He's written books. He's coached for 50 years now. He's been rejuvenated with this thing in Chicago (where he is an assistant to Vinny Del Negro).

"He Seems to be ... a mentor to their young coaches. It's another challenge for him. He's a brilliant man. And hopefully I've been able to retain.

"Heck, he writes books and he has novels of offensive and defensive game plans, and I'm trying to steal them along the way. I still have some of the stuff that he started with in 1990."
